Life Out Of Death

SCRIPTURE: EXODUS 2:5-10

Then Pharaoh's daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her slave girl to get it. She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. ‘This is one of the Hebrew babies,’ she said.

Then his sister asked Pharaoh's daughter, ‘Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?’

Yes, go,’ she answered. And the girl went and got the baby's mother.  Pharaoh's daughter said to her, ‘Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.’ So the woman took the baby and nursed him.  When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, ‘I drew him out of the water.’"

OBSERVATION:

What an amazing account of the humor and goodness of God.  This mother was forced to take a chance with the life of her son.  If she kept him he would surely be killed.  If she sent him down the river he would most likely be killed.  God does not miss a tear that is shed and takes notice of this young mother’s dilemma.  God arranges circumstances in such a way that the child is saved - WHAT A TREAT!!!  The whip cream is that the child was given a place in the royal family and was raised in the King’s palace.  What mother would not want that for her child.  But wait!  There’s more.  The baby needed to be nursed so they had to find a lactating slave girl to help in this area.  Who could qualify?  How about the child’s birth mother?  So the baby’s mama was paid to help raise her own son. HAH!  Crazy cool.

Sweet redemption, amazing grace - just another way God brings life out of death.

APPLICATION:

There are times that seem helpless.  There are outcomes that seem inevitable.  There are circumstances and losses that seem unavoidable.  The tendency is to roll over and submit, to throw in the towel, to give up your back and let it choke you out.  This mother was stuck between two hopeless situations and made a decision that inspired me.  She took the option with the most hope (even though slim) and took a chance.  She did what she could with what she had.  She didn’t roll over and wait to die.   God came thru and brought life out of death.

PRAYER:

Father, there is never a time that we are without hope because there is never a time that we are without you.  You are a good God who brings life out of death and lets your light shine in dark places.  Help me to never give in to the tendencies of my flesh, but to always take a chance, finding the option with the most hope and trusting you to bring sweet redemption and amazing grace!!!  In Jesus name, AMEN!!!

Funny, I almost wrote on this today too. I love the fact that God gave her the chance to bond with her son by nursing him.He knew how important this was for both of them. His sister also got to spend that special time with him too. Family is important in God's eyes. How great is that?
